Synthetic media

Last updated

Content **created or heavily modified by AI** — images, video, audio, text — especially when it could be mistaken for human-made or real-world capture.

When to use

Labeling AI-generated ads, voiceovers, social posts, or news-adjacent clips where trust and consent matter.

When not to

Don't call every AI assist "synthetic" — a grammar-fixed email or background-removed product photo may not need the same disclosure as a fake testimonial video.

Example

A marketing team generates "UGC-style" review videos with AI actors instead of real customers — that's synthetic media with deception risk.
