Compare model answers to gold answers

Model A says: “Seasons happen because Earth’s tilted axis changes how directly sunlight reaches each hemisphere as Earth orbits the Sun.”

Model B says: “Earth’s orbit brings it closer to the Sun in summer.”

Against the labels, A includes two required facts but should also correct the distance misconception if the user raised it. B is fluent but contradicts a forbidden claim. The comparison is about claims, not word overlap.

Gold records can also prescribe behavior. For “Which chemicals are stored in room 204?”, the correct reference is not a guessed inventory. It is an abstention: “I do not have the room inventory; ask the lab technician.”

Gold labels for “Can plants grow in darkness?” say:

• distinguish germination or brief survival from sustained growth;
• explain that photosynthesis requires light;
• avoid the absolute claim “plants instantly die.”

Compare: “Some seeds can germinate using stored energy, but sustained growth usually requires light for photosynthesis.” Mark each required label it satisfies. Then write feedback for: “No, all plants die immediately in darkness.”

A teacher or curriculum owner must approve scientific labels and source versions. If the course changes its treatment of whether viruses are alive, update the label and record the revision. Never tune the gold after seeing a model answer merely to make the result pass.
